EV Charging
Civic Center Solar EV Chargers
The City of Livermore is driving on sunshine! Earlier this year, the City installed two solar electric vehicle (EV) chargers on the Civic Center campus. The chargers are off-the-grid and have a battery that can be used for power during emergencies.
The City paid for the chargers with a rebate from the US Department of Energy (DOE). Livermore’s project was the first to be awarded under this new rebate program.
Representatives from DOE are hosting an event at the Civic Center Library on August 30th to celebrate this achievement. The event coincide with DOE’s “Resiliency Month,” highlighting DOE efforts to promote climate resilience in local communities.
Public EV Charging Hubs
The City is partnering with Ava Community Energy to install public fast charging hubs on City-owned property. The first hub is under construction downtown next to the future L St Parking Garage (behind the First Street Ale House). This hub will include 32 fast chargers and 18 Level 2 chargers and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024.
The City is exploring additional public charging hub locations including:
- Civic Center Library (in design)
- Rincon Library
- Trader Joe’s shopping center
- Robert Livermore Community Center
- 2164 2nd Street
- Angled street parking in downtown
EV Charging Ordinance
Effective January 1, 2023, the City’s EV Charging Ordinance requires new residences and businesses in Livermore to install more EV chargers than required by the State building code. This ordinance will ensure that new development in Livermore is ready to meet existing and future EV charging demands.
