Stormwater Management
The City of Livermore Water Resources Division is responsible for stormwater infrastructure within city limits. Staff respond to flooding and reports of illegal storm drain discharges 24/7.
Livermore’s stormwater infrastructure includes 7,000 storm drains and miles of drainage ditches in public areas and along city streets. These drains and ditches divert rain and debris away from roads and other impermeable surfaces to prevent flooding.
Once stormwater flows into a storm drain, it flows through a network of 225 miles of stormwater pipes that empty into local flood control channels, detention ponds, and creeks. The stormwater then ultimately flows into the San Francisco Bay.
Water Resources Division staff routinely clean storm drains and ditches to remove any obstructions and make structural improvements to ensure that the system can handle the stormwater flow.
