NOW OPEN! On June 15, 2022, the City celebrated the opening of Livermorium Plaza at Mills Square Park. It commemorates the creation of the livermorium element by a team of scientists, including those from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It's located at 116 S. Livermore Ave. to coincide with the atomic number of livermorium, 116.

The focal point of Livermorium Plaza is an in-ground livermorium atom and at the center is the nucleus represented by a granite water ball fountain. The fountain and base, together, weigh 18,000 pounds and yet only 20 psi of water pressure is required to lift the water ball and allow it to be easily rotated by hand. The water ball is engraved with 10 facts about Livermorium provided by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and 12 engraved granite markers encircling the fountain display with additional facts. A total of 116 electrons are represented through engraved markers, reflective markers, lights and tree wells. The stainless-steel bands encircling the fountain represent the seven shells or orbitals of the atom.

The ribbon cutting ceremony featured the following speakers: Mayor Bob Woerner, Quest Science Center CEO Monya Lane, former mayor John Marchand, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Director Dr. Kimberly S. Budil, and the Honorable Jill M. Hruby, the Under Secretary for Nuclear Security and Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration in the United States Department of Energy. Poet Laureate Cynthia J. Patton recited her poem, "A Brilliant Light," and music was provided by Element 116, local jazz band comprised of middle and high school students in Livermore.
