Each year, the Livermore Police Department teams up with the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) to put on the annual Shop With A Cop program. The Shop With A Cop program allows LPD officers to "adopt" a young LVJUSD student who is in financial need and to take the student shopping for Christmas presents in early December.
This year, Shop With A Cop will take place on a Saturday, Dec. 9. The selected students will meet a Livermore Police Officer in uniform (all of the involved officers are donating their personal time to the program). The officers drive the students to a local Starbucks where they are treated to a cup of hot cocoa. Then all the officers and students caravan to Walmart where they are greeted by the Granada High School band and members of the LHS and GHS student leadership teams.
The students then go on a shopping spree at Walmart selecting gifts for their family members and themselves. Once the shopping is completed, the students are fed a breakfast prepared by the Livermore Police Department. The students are assisted by their officers and other volunteers in wrapping their presents before being taken back home.
